Sci-fi 2D side-scroller game for PC

Prototype N is an action game for PC from indie developer Arrietty. It is a 2D side-scroller that features pixel graphics and a sci-fi theme for its narrative. In it, players will fight against waves of rogue robots that are running amok all over the world.

Taking cues from games like Mega Man Legacy Collection and Mega Man X Legacy Collection, Prototype N offers a mix of platforming and fast-paced shooting for its gameplay. The game also features multiple biomes to explore, each with its own roster of enemies and bosses to face. It's currently available as a demo.

Robot rampage

Prototype N takes place in the distant future where the world is under threat from a legion of rampaging robots that are causing mayhem and destruction across the globe. You play as Nadine, a prototype android and it is up to you to put a stop to the chaos with the limited functionality and capabilities that your current form can manage.

You will start your perilous journey with your trusty arm cannon to blast enemies with. As of right now, the game offers seven unique weapons you'll get to use as you progress, each with distinct attributes suited for different situations. To defend yourself, you'll utilize multiple shield types able to withstand basic, fire, and metal-based attacks. Pick-ups like health, ammo, and gems are also spread throughout stages.

As a bonus, you can collect DataChips that contain info on enemies, weapons, and locations, all viewable from your Data Base. Now, the only thing to be aware of before proceeding is this is just a demo version. It is still in active development, with no specific release date for the full game yet. Aside from that, you're good to go.

One-girl robot army

All in all, Prototype N is a solid action side-scroller with engaging gameplay and charming visuals. Fans of the Mega Man series will immediately recognize its subtle homages here and there. Even in its current demo state, it's already quite a blast to play, so it's definitely worth looking out for the full release if you like what you'll experience here.
